My Project
The 4th graders at our school are endlessly curious and would benefit from the chance to explore fundamental scientific concepts through experimentation. We have a fun and engaging science curriculum that includes clear and adaptable experiments in every lesson. Unfortunately materials for the them are not provided, which means that we sometimes need to forgo the activities. Funding this project will ensure that both of my 4th grade science classes will have the materials they need to complete the experiments included in each lesson.
These incredible young people face the effects of poverty everyday and deserve to know that there are other people out there who care about their education.
Without this support, I am left to pick and choose which activities for which I can afford to gather supplies. I then supplement the rest with videos and worksheets. I worry that doing this takes the joy out of learning and limits their ability to connect to the material. Your support will go toward elevating the educational experiences of North Philadelphia's coolest 4th graders.
I have done my best to select only what is necessary for each lesson, but there is some overflow. I will reserve any leftover items for the following year, and reuse everything that I can. The name of the curriculum is "Mystery Science, Grade 4". We will be completing the lessons in the units titled "Human Body and the Brain," "Animal and Plant Adaptations," "Earth's Features and Processes," and "Sound, Waves, and Communication." Thank you.
