Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach children in a low-income and high poverty neighborhood in the inner city of Los Angeles. At this Title I school, 100% of my students receive free and reduced lunch.

Though their economic standing has them encountering many challenges, struggling to receive an exemplary education will not be one of them, as far as I am concerned.

My hope is to provide my students with the highest expectations so that they can succeed in their lives, education, and careers. To help me do that, I need resources that these student may not have readily available.

My Project

As this year progressed, I realized that my students needed more assistance in their organizational skills. I continuously heard about how they lost their pencils, worksheets, or even books. I want to help them with this issue by providing my students with tools that will help them with organizing their materials.

Basic tools like folders, pencils boxes, and baskets will help students keep their areas organized.

Organizational skills are a necessary lifelong skill, and believe it or not, needs to be be explicitly taught in the classroom. Some of my students may not have the necessary tools provided to them from home. If funded in time, my students this year will be able to benefit from these materials and they will be recycled by the students I will teach next year. However, if not funded by the end of the school year, my new students will have brand new materials to use when they start their first day of school.
