This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Can you imagine what school would be like if you were 2 to 3 grade levels behind? How would you feel about reading? What if no one was available to read aloud to you? Do you think that following along to the audio version of a book would be helpful? Can these students discover a love of reading?

The students I work with in the Learning Center are currently in 4th or 5th grade.

These students are 2 or more grade levels behind. Many of them have a reading lexile lower than 100, which is the Beginning Reader Level (Kinder/1st Grade Level). Because these students struggle with reading, they come to me for Intensive Intervention and Replacement of their grade level Reading Curriculum. Part of the program requires that students read books just at or slightly above their lexile level. The program provides the audio version of the books and students are supposed to listen to their book as they read. This audio support is crucial for my students. Unfortunately, we don't have the audio players for them to use the audio support.

My Project

Your donation will ensure that my students have access to the audio support they require for their daily independent reading practice. The mp3 players your donation provides will empower them as they acquire confidence in their reading skills. Please help them engage in a positive way with literature. I truly believe in the power of utilizing technology and various learning modalities with students. I hope you believe in them and this project, because I know it will make a difference.

It breaks my heart that my students have yet to discover the wonderful world of books--that they approach reading with frustration and fear.
