Moving While We Learn!

My students need some new classroom seating to help stay active around the classroom.

My Students

Our elementary school sits in an inner city district and is still considered a Title 1 school. My students come from a variety of social and economical backgrounds. They have struggles and successes throughout the day. Our classroom is comprised of those that are special ed, bilingual, as well as talented and gifted. The students all have one thing in common, they all want to succeed in third grade and are looking for the stability of a routine oriented classroom. My students want and need a space to become independent learners.

My Project

My students requested alternative seating while they were learning. I was able to secure two standing desks but that wasn't enough to meet the demands of 23 students. They have asked several times to sit in different seats and work around the room with partners. Having these seating options would not only please the students in my classroom and get them moving, but it would also help them stay fit and burn calories while they do it. Having these seats would put the students in control of their own learning and make them physically fit while doing it. The chairs would start to fit the demands of the students in the class.
