Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In my high-need community we are trying to keep the students interested in learning to keep them in school through alternative forms of literature and education that focus on their needs. We are also in a constant struggle to meet the needs of our English learner community and keep their interest in school high as they learn the language.
Our class materials fail to reflect the constant multimedia our students are bombarded with every day. As literature develops into prize winning graphic novels, we need to represent that change to our students. Graphic novels also help
I need graphic novels to share with my students the way that the visual and the words interact with each other in this developing media. Within our Arts, Media, and Entertainment Small Learning Community, our students deserve to have the cutting edge of art and literature. These novels will also allow all students to participate in deep engaging discussion regardless of where they stand learning the English language.
You will show my students a new world of literature-- one that is both complex and visually interesting, and one that they can engage in within all levels of English reading skills.
