Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students have entered our online classroom every morning, ready and eager to learn. No longer are the days of playing house and sandbox all day in kindergarten. The opportunity to work and play in person is coming just after spring break and we are looking to do it safely. These students are bursting with great potential to be our future leaders. They consist of mostly English language learners that attend a low socioeconomic school where over 75 % of our families qualify for free breakfast and lunch. This can present challenges but also creates wonderful opportunities. In my classroom, we learn together and from each other.

They have the most caring hearts and an incredible capacity to learn while taking on challenging lessons, classroom responsibilities, and building friendships.

It is not hard to believe these children will grow to be our best and brightest future. I am so grateful to be a part of their first step in the love of learning in our wonderful public school.

My Project

Much of our day is spent on the carpet while we explore, investigate, read, dance, and sing. Due to COVID -19 restrictions, we are unable to use the carpet as we have in years past allowing us our own space and a comfortable place to sit and learn. Research has shown that when students are comfortable and able to get their wiggles out, their learning performance increases. These sit spots and rounds will be spaced safely while also being able to clean them at the end of the day.

The time on the floor becomes the center of our community where we can share our thoughts and ideas more freely and frequently .

These spots will allow me to see my kids demonstrate whatever concepts we are working on and allow positive learning interaction between my students safely.
