Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Leaving Pre-kindergarten--Destination: the rest of their academic lives!" Our students will celebrate the culmination of their first year of school with poems, songs, and a Power-Point slide-show in a decorated auditorium event that showcases our students' growth and all year-long activities.
Our students come from a variety of ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds, and many are ELL students.
Their parents are actively-involved in their academic success, and taking a look back at their growth as readers, writers, and artists would be beneficial to provide closure to a fun-filled year of learning, as well as to set the stage for the school year ahead.
Students will both enjoy looking back and reminiscing about their first year of school, as well as relish their accomplishments as they begin to think about moving on to kindergarten. They are eager learners who love to demonstrate all that they have learned, and a Moving-Up ceremony is an ideal forum in which to do that.
My Project
My students, as well as those of the other Pre-K class, will learn to work both independently and in groups to produce a finished product in each of several academic areas. This will include a book of writing, a poem, various pieces of art using different media, and songs that celebrate their progress. We envision an auditorium transformed into a festive atmosphere, with the stage set for each child's accomplishments to be recognized as their presentation is coupled with a Power-Point presentation of pictures of the students that are featured on a screen behind them as they sing, recite, and engage the audience in a celebration of their year together. We need 35 writing journals, 35 boxes of crayons, a class set of paints and glitter pens to have each child participate in hands-on projects for this event.
As this is the last time our students will be together as a class, and they have achieved so much in our time together, it would be fitting for them to have the opportunity to recognize all they have accomplished in a setting that makes this day both memorable and fun.
Contributions to this effort would serve to provide us with the necessary supplies and would relieve some of the financial burden of such a grade-wide undertaking. We envision a day that the students will always remember.
