My Students

How long can you sit still and stay focused for one period of time? Imagine how much harder that is for a first-grade student who is six or seven years old! My goal as a teacher is to do whatever it takes to help all of my students be successful and I have discovered that different styles of seating are a big key to that success!

Don't you just love when retailers put that label "One Size Fits All?" I am here to tell you that one size DOES NOT fit all no matter what the sticker says.

When I first began teaching every student had a traditional chair (using the one size fits all approach) and I quickly began to realize that my kids needed to move! I believe that if you take the need to move away, then you create more time for learning. So I shifted away from the one size fits all approach and adopted different seating options such as yoga balls, wobble disk, and wobble stools. I want to keep adding different seating options to my classroom so that my students will continue to move while they learn!

My Project

Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. During independent work times, my students use our flexible seating options that allow them to move while they work. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating. My students are more engaged and get more work completed than when they are just sitting in a traditional style chair.

My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given a variety of seating choices.

The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices. The KidsErgo stools will allow students to sit at desk/higher tables but will still allow some movement. The Donut Stability Seats will also allow students to move and are lightweight enough to be easily used in many areas of the classroom. Both of these seating options will be extremely beneficial for some students that just need to get the wiggles out. I have seen how choice can positively affect my students work and demeanor and hope that the additional options will help us grow even more!
