Help me give my students the materials that we will use to increase their social-emotional development through outdoor activities, decorating face masks together as well as candy rewards for going the extra mile.
My students come from a diverse array of cultural, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds. They are fun, high-energy, and have worked so hard during distance learning due to Covid 19. We are currently in a hybrid model for teaching so I see the students just 2-3 days a week. I want my students to feel connected, appreciated and supported.
We will create face masks to create a united team of math learners and also have soccer balls available for the students to use during their break time.
Social emotional and academic learning is supported by having the students exert energy in group activities such as soccer. I am developing activities that will help my students learn while also feeling connected to their peers which can be difficult when they are in a hybrid schedule divided into learning pods. Colored paper will help to keep everyone actively engaged both in the classroom at at home. Having colored paper helps students quickly find notes and reference sheets.
My Project
The students love the math face masks that I wear during class. To create a sense of community while also promoting the health and safety of the students, we will decorate face masks together. At a time when it is difficult for students to feel connected to their school community, these masks will allow students to literally bring a part of their classroom and learning wherever they go.
We will use the face masks that the students create to talk about what makes us feel connected, appreciated and creates a sense of resilience, while also supporting students' social-emotional learning.
The soccer balls balls will help students exert energy while working together. We understand that exercise leads to positive emotional well-being.
The colored paper will allow students to quickly find their notes and resources both at home and at school. Having the resources helps students to feel successful. This success will be supported with the reward of candy when accomplishing work above the norm.
