My Project

My fifth graders haven't had a "normal" school year since 2nd grade. They have been on and off of virtual learning for the last three years and have needed time to get used to in-class learning and classroom expectations.

Being in the classroom has required them to relearn cooperative and social skills while dealing with their peers, as well as rebuild stamina and focus to successfully adjust to the classroom setting.

Giving the students the opportunity to go between working independently and working together will help the students with this. My students enjoy being given the choice of flexible seating because it gives them control of meeting their own needs. Because they can move and stand as they see fit, they have more focus and have less misbehaviors when given this choice. The wobble stool and standing desk will add to the choices they have. Because of Covid-19 protocols and safety, these students are relearning how to work in small groups and with partners. I have chosen math and science activities to help foster this cooperation in a fun way, while still meeting their academic needs.
