Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach Pre-Kindergarten at a small, neighborhood school in Central Florida. Our school is a Title I school and the majority of students qualify for free and reduced-price lunch. We are growing our Pre-K program and will be starting our second year.
The majority of our students start Pre-K speaking only Spanish and need an authentic experiences to foster a love of learning and an introduction to vocabulary in these subject areas.
Our students are like little sponges as they are ready and willing to participate in these new activities!
My Project
Pre-K students need additional activities to engage them outside. Gross motor development is key in the early years as children learn to throw, catch and develop balance. Scooters, balls and catching mitts are all great ways to develop these skills and strengthen their core.
After hurricane Irma, our students were out of school for over a week and the clean up in the community has taken much longer than expected.
Yards are cluttered leaving little room for children to play outdoors after school. This makes it even more important for us to offer additional outdoor activities during the school day.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
