My Students
The majority of my students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds. More than 70% of our school is on free and reduced lunch and all of the students in my class are in the Exceptional education program, many of whom are on the autism spectrum. My students spend the majority of their day inside the general education classroom and come to my room for additional small group reading, math and social skills instruction.
While their disabilities may range from mild to more severe, one thing they all have in common is their love of technology, games, and need to move!
My students are often able to show what they know more through play and games!
My students are curious, creative, and imaginative learners. They work hard to solve problems, and discover new things. In our class we are writers, readers, mathematicians, but most of all dreamers! Given the necessary materials, students have a stronger opportunity at achieving their personal best. With a wide range of learners, it is essential that I have the tools and resources to support their varied interests and needs.
My Project
My unique learners love to move and prefer to play games while learning! The wobble stools will give the students the tools to move and wiggle safely while also staying in their designated space, which is critical with COVID protocols this year. The glow items will allow me to turn our entire classroom into a fun space where educational games will be glowing with hidden learning opportunities. My students are all more than two grade levels behind and are often having to work on skills that they know are lower than what their peers are learning. This can make them feel bad about themselves. However, when those lower level skills are presented as fun academic games they don't even notice and jump right into the fun of learning!
