“Moving” Along in Kindergarten

My Students

I work in a beautiful, rural county in Florida. Over 80% of the students in our county come from low-income families which make us a Title I county. We are a very close knit community where everyone knows everyone. Unfortunately, on October 10th, our community was ravaged by Hurricane Michael. Many homes were either damaged or destroyed. Some students were displaced from the hurricane and/or lost everything that belonged to them. It has put a huge financial strain on many residents in our community.

The students in my kindergarten classroom consists of 5 and 6 year olds with varying learning abilities and styles.

They love to learn!

These young students have been through so much that I want to ensure that each day is filled with activities that are fun, engaging and challenging.

My Project

Kindergarten students need to be able to move around, explore and investigate during the school day. Learning centers help students further develop fine motor skills, as well as, language and math concepts. The materials that I am requesting will give students a variety of activities to engage in during center time. I am also requesting storage containers to keep center activities organized when not in use.

Children need to move.

Flexible seating gives students the ability to rock, bounce, or wobble. The flexible seating I am requesting, such as wobble stools, chair bands and bouncy balls, will allow students different seating options to help them stay engaged during activities.
