Movie Makers in the Making

My Students

The students at my school attend a school that has a history of 50+ years. It is a neighborhood school, so a majority of our students live in the neighborhood, and know each other from outside school events. We are also an open enrollment school, meaning many of our students choose to provide transportation in order to attend our school. We have an English Language Learner population which is mainly Hispanic. My students are bright, curious, and highly motivated by projects and hands-on materials.

My Project

My students were learning how to make "Stop Motion" movies when we were sent home to quarantine because of Covid 19 last Spring. They were so disappointed not to get to continue this learning. Now we are back in school, but because we must distance ourselves, we have to work in much smaller groups, and I don't have the same amount of iPads to go around. Having 5 more iPads to add to the art room, would allow students to work in pairs- which would allow me to bring back this unit. And once they have learned it in the art room, they can continue it at home easily by downloading the app on their own devices.

Stop Motion Movies were engaging - even the most hesitant of artists were enjoying creating their characters, writing their scripts, and finding ways to create their "Special Effects".
