I teach elementary physical education in a Title I school to about 600 students. In addition, I teach 2 classes of students with special needs who receive adaptive physical education. Some of these students attend my class in a small group setting or with a general education class.
In order for these students to participate in my classes, they need assistance or specialized equipment to assist them in the learning process to achieve the skill.
Most of these students have a short attention span and struggle with staying on task. I'm constantly evaluating their needs and providing lessons that are developmentally appropriate.
My Project
With your donation, I will be able to focus on lessons that allow my students with special needs to stay on task with their movement and motor skills. Because my students have a range of different disabilities, I look for ideas and equipment that are easily adaptable for all students.
I will be able to use the flaghouse graduated steps and the it rocks set during my gymnastics and fitness unit as an obstacle course.
This will allow my students to stay together and follow the same routine of the course. I can use these resources as a weekly warm up as well.
