My Students
I work with about 15 students with social emotional disabilities in a general ed setting. They are 7th and 8th graders with a range of academic and social abilities and needs.
Shooting hoops is a big draw for our middle school boys, but we lack a hoop for our use.
Our students are on a point system and earn incentives for prosocial behavior. They want to be able to earn athletic time, but we lack the equipment. We can use this for Fun Fridays or in small time chunks.
My Project
When our project is funded our students will have basketball athletic time added to their choice menu when they achieve their point goals. They can earn weekly activities if they increase their prosocial behavior. At times we cook or use computers, but have limited ways to add movement into our day, but it’s often a request students have. We can also use this for friendly class competitions and other learning games. Headphones will be used for earned and instructional computer time. In addition, noise canceling headphones can be worn by sound sensitive students. Our students look forward to hearing about our progress toward our goal.
