Help me give my students materials that will help with attention, motor skills, and communication. The Sit and Spin Wobble Chair will help give my most challenged students sensory input and increase balance and brain development.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My classroom consists of special needs and typically learning students. Students range in age from 2.6 to 5 years old with a range of challenging developmental delays, including autism, severe communication, motor and social emotional delays. They are from the inner-city and many do not have the attention, communication and motor skills to become active in their learning.
My students are very special and I want to provide them with materials that will help them become actively engaged in their learning and enhance their developmental growth.
My special needs students need adult support to stay seated during whole and small group lessons. They lose attention easily and can not stay focused on a given task. Having fidget and fine motor materials, proper seating and movement accommodations provides opportunities to get sensory input as they work towards their pre-academic goals. The selected materials will allow me to offer developmentally appropriate materials that will benefit the needs of my special needs and typical learners.
My students face a number of cognitive, social, emotional and motor challenges. The materials requested focus on a multi-sensory approach to learning. My students love to touch, squeeze and manipulate materials. The fidget toys and therapy putty will allow them to build on their fine motor skills while helping them focus on a large or small group lesson. The cube seat, fidget foot bands and sit and spin seat will give my challenged students sensory input to help them focus and improve attention. The emotions manipulatives will help them identify and express themselves. These requested materials will help me create a developmentally appropriate classroom environment focusing on the whole child with a whole body approach to learning. The funds for this project will not only benefit me, but will benefit my students growth towards reaching their goals.
