Movement for Learning

My students need a platform and cuddle swing for vestibular input to self soothe and to help calm them when overstimulated.

My Students

I am an Occupational Therapist covering multiple schools. I have approximately 90-100 special needs students to serve with a wide variety of disabilities, including but not limited to, autism, developmental delay, genetic disorders, etc. The age group for this donors choose includes Pre-K to 3rd grade. I specifically help target fine motor, visual motor, and sensory motor skills needed to help each child maximize their function within the classroom setting.

My Project

I currently need supplies and/or equipment geared towards sensory integration to help my students reach their educational goals at the same level as their peers. Children with sensory processing delays have a difficult time getting and staying organized which affect their ability to sit, attend and participate in their classroom setting. Some students have severe responses to tactile, auditory, and visual stimuli and constantly seek movement, touch and oral input. When they have extreme reactions some can have difficulty calming down. These difficulties can adversely affect their learning and the learning of their classmates. The cuddle swing will give the kids a cozy and safe place to calm down when over stimulated. The platform swing will provide movement for calming while also working on postural control and trunk strengthening.

These swings will make a huge impact for these children and provide them with the sensory input they need as well as a safe and calming space.
