This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We have students that are very resilient. They have been through Hurricane Harvey which still has buildings closed waiting for repairs. After that, school was closed for bats and, it was closed for the coronavirus. This has been very tough on the entire community; however, they continue to stand together while apart.

Many children are left to entertain themselves and they play video games or watch tv which means they are not getting the movement they need to stay healthy!

My Project

Using gross motor skills while teaching speech motor skills helps children to learn the speech skills faster.

Using both types of motor skills at the same time engrains the motor patterns allowing students to learn to use speech motor patterns quicker.

Also if children are able to use the sounds in conversational speech while performing movement activities they are able to generalize/ carryover the skills to other settings which is always the goal of speech therapy. Please help us gain speech skills while performing movement and getting healthy. Let's get moving!

Stepping stones, stomping it, ring toss, red light green light and the other activities all provide motor activities to help with carryover of articulation skills!
