This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I want my students to have access to the music that we already have in our classroom but I also want to provide them with music that reflects their culture as well as provide new learning opportunities through music.
My students love music and I love to incorporate a lot of movement in our daily schedule.
My students are primarily English Language Learners whose first language is Spanish. They love to sing and dance and learn through music. They also love to hear their language and culture reflected in the classroom. One way I can do that is through music.
My Project
My classroom is in need of new music and 21st century equipment. With an iPod, I can purchase music that will not only provide my students with gross motor activity but I can also purchase music that reinforces key instructional concepts. I will also be able to download audio books that match the books that we have in our classroom which will maximize our existing resources for the listening center.
Kindergarten is a place where music and learning go hand in hand.
Children need to be able to feel accepted and happy. I believe that this iPod will not only bring music and movement into my classroom but it will also be a means of reflecting and validating my students cultures and identities. Have you ever seen an unhappy singing child? No way!
