I am a 5th-year teacher who recently moved to 1st grade and joined the dual language immersion program. My duties include teaching English/Language Arts and reinforcing math/science vocabulary to 27 students at a time. Halfway through each day, the students switch to a fluent Spanish teacher who works on math, science, and social studies with them.
Our students are smart, curious, creative, and enthusiastic learners who have a love of learning.
Being first graders, many of them are busy bodies. They enjoy building their social-emotional growth through academic discussions, collaborative work, and hands-on projects.
My Project
Throughout the pandemic, students are required to have their own supplies. As a dual language classroom, we normally share supplies with groups or tables. The supplies listed will help allow more social distancing in the classroom to keep students and teachers safe and healthy. Other supplies in this Donors Choose will assist in focusing and listening to instruction in the form of wobble cushions and rubber kick bands.
The attached list of supplies will be utilized by 54 students to encourage learning though movement and hands-on opportunities and taken care of for future first grade students.
With the addition of LETRS this school year, the remaining materials will provide multi-sensory approaches to learning. This will aid of understanding and comprehension of both reading and spelling for the students in my classroom.
