it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This fall, I will begin my journey as a first-year teacher in a diverse dual-language classroom. More than half of my students come from low-income households and qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. My students will bring curiosity, creativity, energy and a love for learning into our classroom every day.
As I build my classroom from the ground up, I am committed to creating a supportive learning environment that nurtures both academic, mental health and emotional growth.
This project will provide my students with essential sports and exercise equipment that includes physical education kits, chair bands for fidgety feet, footballs, soccer cones, a storage tub, and an electric pump. These materials will be used to create movement breaks, structured physical activities, and calming sensory tools in and outside of the classroom.
The chair bands will help fidgety students release energy in a productive way while remaining seated and engaged during lessons. The footballs, cones, and PE kits will support recess games, physical education lessons that will be taught by me and team-building activities, while the storage tub and electric pump will help us keep everything organized and ready to use.
Incorporating physical activity into the school day is one of the most effective, evidence-based strategies to support students' mental health. With your support, we can create a classroom and playground environment that helps students move, breathe, reset, and thrive.
