This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Can you imagine playing a rain maker, and then going to the map to see where your instrument came from? And how about a Ghanaian woven rattle, and then research it on the computer? My students would be able to do that and much more if you would fund my project.
My elementary school is a Title I school which means that most of our children receive free lunch because their parents are not able to provide it themselves.
The students are first generation Americans.
There used to be 2 music teachers at my school, but because of budget cuts, there is only one: me! Because of that, I am left teaching 535 students Each Week! My classes can be as large as 47 students at a time!!!
My Project
Ghanaian rattles, frog-shaped Asian rasps, Peruvian maracas, Chilean rain makers, Japanese den dens, Chinese gongs...!!! What a fantastic diverse collection of world instruments! And what joyous raucous (and Very Noisy too!) music my kids will be able to make while learning how to play the instruments, take care of them, and find out from where they came from, as well as, learning to read rhythms!!!!!! They would be killing quite a number of birds with one stone!!
By donating these "international" instruments to our students, you will not only be giving them the chance to actually see and play objects from far-away places, but you will also be liven up my jam-packed classes, and help my students focus.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
