it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
If you have kids, or you've taught kids, you know they like their own space. A little too close and poke, poke, nudge, nudge. . .total distraction.
I teach 25 second grade students at a public charter school in Washington, D.C.
Our school is exceptionally diverse in the true meaning of the word for a D.C. public school. We are high achieving and we believe that every student of every race, socioeconomic status, and home language can succeed and should be ready to go to and succeed at the college of his or her own choice. Even with our youngest students, we make sure our kids know that they are going to college!
My Project
A new and bigger carpet that is conveniently sectioned into squares for each student to sit on will make a big difference to my students. It's hard to pay attention if you can't see because someone is too close to you or if someone is touching you. This carpet is big enough for all of us.
It's the basics in a classroom that make the most impact.
High quality books, paper, pencils, and yes, a carpet that is big enough to sit on and organized for everyone to have their own spots. Please help us with the basics; the kids will do the rest!
