This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are special because one, all kids are special and two, even though my students face challenges and find themselves to be statistics of poverty and single-parent households, they come to school each day ready to learn and wanting to belong to a safe and loving environment. Every student in my classroom meets some kind of negative statistic but it is my hope and my mission to help my students use their disadvantages to make them stronger and fuel them through this journey of life.

My Project

My students got to visit a movement lab. After going to explore the movement lab they came back to the classroom with excitement and wanted bring those materials into our class.

My students' excitement about using movement to learn motivated me to research the benefits of movement in the classroom.

I found that moving accelerates learning. With this new knowledge I assisted my students in creating a wish list of items they want to incorporate in our classroom to help facilitate movement.

The items that I am requesting will help my students use movement to fuel their learning.

Some of my students struggle with being able to focus and completing activities. So, the wobble chairs and alphabet toss will allow for my students to move while they are completing their activities. I will use the wobble chairs at my small group table. This is where I work with a small group of children on areas they need to grow. I will incorporate the alphabet toss during our brain breaks and reading time. This will help students who are learning their letters practice identifying letters and sounds.During our brain breaks students readily engage in movement and are taught that we move to make our brains healthier and ready for learning. Finally, the hundreds carpet will be used during our math time. I will incorporate movement and math. For example, we can skip count by 2s,3s,4s... by jumping, hopping... Students are learning foundations of math enhanced by movement!

Currently, we can only incorporate about 60 minutes of movement each week. With the donation of these items, each student will rotate items each day and will be able to participate in more than 60 minuets of movement each day! Also, they will learn the importance health and the of the fun of sports.
