My Students

We are a small, rural community with hard-working students who need assistance with acquiring resources. Elementary music is provided for every K-6 student in our district, and we are expanding our high school music course offerings as well.

Our K-5 students are excited to come to class each time and are constantly asking, "When can we play instruments?" Our current inventory was salvaged from past classrooms, last used over fifteen years ago, and our school is working hard to update it to fit our current needs.

To build up our new elementary music program, we are asking for your help! These students deserve the same enriching opportunities as those in other parts of our state or country.

The music room is a unique place for collaboration and where we can achieve great things together. It is my goal to inspire the passion of making music as a community, and what better time than now! These students deserve the best!

My Project

Young musicians need to move their bodies often to stay engaged in class. Before we make music formally, they experience music through movement. These rhythm sticks are age-appropriate for small hands and will be replacing our current splintered, chipped, and too-long rhythm sticks. Students can explore creatively how to move to music through keeping a steady beat with their sticks. These loofas will help them develop their singing voice by following vocal pathways they create in the air. The Hoberman's sphere is encaptivating to children as they learn how to identify and sing the resting tone of songs. The book "We're Going on a Bear Hunt" is an engaging story with many opportunities for students to create sounds with instruments to accompany the characters' journey. Not to mention exposing students to great literature in the music room.

Little ones benefit greatly from fun movement in the music classroom!

The materials in this project will serve students in our elementary school for years to come. Beanbags, rhythm sticks, loofahs, and the Hoberman's sphere are colorful, safe, and easy to use for even our youngest students in Kindergarten.
