My Students

My students are creative thinkers, writers, readers, inquirers, explorers, and leaders despite the fact that over half of my students do not speak English at home, and, for many, English is not their first language. Some of my students have language and learning disabilities. I also have students on the autism spectrum.

While overcoming many challenges, my students work hard, think deeply, and always take extra effort to learn and share with each other.

Our school is a Title I school that serves many underprivileged students in the community. Approximately 95% of our students are from low-income households, and all of our students are eligible to receive free lunch. Many of them will, hopefully, be the first in their family to go to college.

My Project

Many studies and research have shown that even 5 minutes of movement and exercise stimulate the brain and wake up the body. Some of our students' favorite daily activities are dancing, singing, and encouraging others to help their brains learn and retain new information. There are so many amazing songs and music that help promote exercise and movement, as well as basic academic and social skills. We move, we dance, we practice public speaking skills, and we inspire others to get up and move throughout the day. It is more crucial now during our return to the classrooms where students cannot have much movement in the school building since COVID-19 had cancelled everything. Our class needs to have a portable loudspeaker that can be easily moved from one place to another. Since we live in Boston, we love to be outdoors in the fresh air when the weather gets warm especially after a year+ of quarantine from the pandemic.

This Bluetooth portable speaker will allow us to enhance outside learning environments and create new sensory opportunities for all of our students with safe space distances in both indoor and outdoor classrooms.

The microphone is also a huge asset to encourage communication development for our students with communication delays. Having a brand new portable speaker with a microphone would be an amazing addition to our program! It would provide an amazing opportunity to enrich learning and our students would love it!
