My Project
Learning basic coding is a practical skill that can be learned at any age. Unlike older teens and adults who can understand and perform abstract reasoning, little kids need to see and touch things. Robot pets are effective tools in kindergarten STEM education. Of course, any popular toy can trigger a quarrel over who goes first and who won't share, paired with sulking or checking out when negotiation and begging don't work. But I've noticed that with the robot mouse I have right now, pouting dissipates quickly. Arguments melt into cheerfully offered feedback and suggestions that make it easier and more fun to succeed. Even so, our group is so large that everyone is mostly an onlooker.
It would be great to have multiple robots for kids working in small groups to learn basic problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
Using a Code & Go Robot Mouse teaches them to read design plans, interpret maps, predict outcomes, program devices and debug errors. I'm confident they'll learn better if, instead of sitting criss-cross applesauce and watching the fun, they can lean in and really help Colby the Mouse-bot get to the giant wedge of cheese.
