My students are full of wonder and curiosity. They are constantly exploring the world around them and learning new things every day. Pre-K is all about hands-on learning and my students love to dig in with all their five senses.
My students come from all different types of backgrounds and cultures.
Many of them have little or no experience with the world around them. Their parents have limited resources and are unable to buy them educational toys to help them progress and succeed. Their main experience comes from my classroom and the trips I take them on.
Even after 17 years of teaching it still amazes me as I watch them grow and learn. Pre-K students have an amazing ability to soak in information. The growth in their maturity and learning is so rapid. The more we expose them to, the more they grow. The metamorphosis throughout the year is absolutely the most incredible sight I have ever seen.
My Project
Learning to become independent learners and thinkers is a major part of our Pre-K experience. We begin to learn how to do many things by ourselves, which in turn builds our self-confidence. We learn how to set and clear the table, we learn to zip our coats and pack up our belongings. We also learn to cut, glue and write.
All of these accomplishments need one very important skill: fine motor skills.
The items in our project are all materials that not only help us learn important academic skills but also build strength in our fingers and hands. We need these materials to improve our eye-hand coordination so that we can learn our self-help and prewriting skills.
