My Project

Returning from summer school, the students arrived with delight showing a variety of skills unique to each of them. By the end of last year, they were learning to independently power a computer tablet, follow the arrows on a pre-writing skills APP, and communicate using verbal approximations, phrases and sentences. Some of them are making progress in their pre-toileting skills. Currently, I see strides in their independence and ability to express themselves verbally be it through technology-assisted or creative play. Thanks to their summer school experience and the support of family members and previous Donorschoose supporters.

By purchasing a new iPad for this school year, students will be able to continue receiving supplementary opportunities to practice pre-writing, counting, communication skills, and self-help skills.

Evidently, a few of the pre-writing and counting apps complement our preschool curriculum tasks. Some examples include developing visual eye-hand coordination, motor, cognitive, and numeracy skills necessary to prepare for kindergarten. Likewise, the Three Little Pigs bundle not only includes the storybook but also STEM related materials to enhance their curiosity all leading to communicative intent. On the other hand, some of the students are still working on their toileting skills and by providing them with a miniature toilet potty play set, they can further enhance their preparedness for early independent self-help skills.

What a great value it is to have these materials in place and start the year with robust progress towards future educational and school success.
