Motivational Mementos and Necessities for the Special Education Classroom

Help me give my students materials they need, items that bring them joy to their learning, and motivation to reach their individual goals! Our classroom refrigerator needs replaced to hold drinks and milk for breaks/snacks.

My Project

The items in my project (Lego build sets, the refrigerator, fruit snacks, Skittles, wobble stools, Bean Bag Chair, wall clock, treasure chest toys, books, UNO, and sport trading cards) will make a significant impact in my student's learning and behavior. Students have regulation breaks, play breaks, sensory breaks, daily behavior check ins, and small group learning daily.

My goal with this project is for students to get what they need to have optimal learning and growing- to continue to be supported, feel understood, encouraged, and provided with what they need as exceptional learners.

Students come to my classroom for sensory breaks, supported play groups, a moment to calm through frustrations, to celebrate learning achievements, to learn in a small group setting, and to receive specially designed instruction in reading or math.

Providing the best learning environment is key! The wobble stools will allow for students to have the flexible seating they need to remain focused while learning, the bean bag chair will provide another seating option for breaks. The Lego sets are specific sets my students have shared that they want to build, and the refrigerator will replace the one in our room that holds drinks and snacks for students that is over 30 years old- it is hanging on by a thread! The baseball, basketball, and soccer cards/stickers are the big focus for the 4th and 5th grade students right now- they really want to earn them as part of their behavior goal incentives. The books will be great for teaching new skills.

The students I work with each day are amazing! Each student is motivated differently. This is why it is imperative to provide specific items that motivate and bring joy through play and learning. I have witnessed how much it means to a student to feel understood!
