Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Dominican, Mexican, Puerto Rican, Ecuadorian, of various other Hispanic origins, and first generation Americans describes 90% of my students. My students enter my class full of energy and excitement. Having come to the United States with their families hopeful of a better life and dependent on a great education to secure a brighter future and fulfill their American Dream.
My students embrace the challenges of learning to read, and the greatest reward is seeing the excitement on their faces when they realize the progress they are making.
Having no one at home to practice English and reading with makes the time my students spend in my class extremely valuable. Literacy is a skill my students will have forever and it will help pave the way to a brighter future for them and their families.
My Project
Motivation is essential in school. What better way to motivate learning and push students to do well then through offering goodies which can be purchased with points at our very own class store. We are requesting the materials to get our class store up and running.
Our store will serve as a one-stop-shop for learning and snacks.
Offering entrepreneurial insight for students on how to run a store, feeding students healthy snacks, teaching them the importance of good dietary decisions, and lastly motivating students behaviorally and academically as they strive to earn points to cash in at the store. Sadly, breakfast, lunch, or dinner are not a guaranteed thing for many of my students, and having a little school store can help alleviate hungry times, and ensure learning in the class.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
