My Students

My fifth graders are highly motivated to read using e-readers. There is just something about using the technological equivalent of a book to excite them about reading. I would like to give my students the opportunity to have e-readers in the classroom to motivate some of the non-readers to read.

We are one of the greatest elementary schools in the world.

We live in the suburbs of a large metropolitan city. Our student's backgrounds are very diverse. We have small family farms as well as families that commute to the larger city for work. This leads to the varied economic resources of our students. The students however are kind and caring to each other and this is why it is a great school.

My Project

My students are highly motivated to use e-readers. Unfortunately I don't have enough e-readers to let the students use them on a frequent basis. Due to a rotational schedule the students can only read with the e-reader twice this school year. We would like more readers so that students will have the opportunity to read for longer periods of time.

In my experience the fifth graders in my class have read more and with more enthusiasm when they have the opportunity to use e-readers.

The students have read considerably more using the e-reader than when they read regular books. In the past the increased reading has raised my target student's reading test scores.
