This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am currently a 3rd year pre-k teacher at in Houston's Alief ISD. Our ELC serves around 78.40% economically disadvantaged students and families. This upcoming school year I will have 22 four and five year old students and my goal is to provide them with math and alphabet manipulatives because were are immensely limited to the learning resources. In addition to the learning materials, I also chose to add fine motor skills tools such as tweezers and paint for their development as the school year progresses.

Since the early learning center will be in its second year of operation, limited resources will be available.

With being a fairly new campus presents challenges when it comes to providing resources, especially when there are large numbers of students per classroom. According to this years data at our ELC 63% of monolingual students were on level when it pertains to math and 42% on level when it pertains to English language arts. To bridge those gaps, providing to the project will fund my students with the tools that they need to obtain progress in ELA and math. Providing materials and learning resources will not only enhance my students learning experience, it will also set them up for success in Kindergarten and beyond.
