My Students
My students are from a large, urban community that welcomes families from all over the globe. They bring diversity, background knowledge, and culture to our school. We are a Title I school in a low-income community; where more than half of my students live in shelters. Free breakfast and lunch were provided to all students each day which is now remotely served.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic students have been engaged in remote learning since March 23, 2020.
Some students are logging onto remote learning platforms through tablets, laptops, and cell phones but not all of them have access to technology. Despite the hardships they are facing with school being closed, they are motivated and eager to learn.
My Project
These materials will help prepare my students to have a great learning day, today, and always. Getting these snacks will give them energy and motivate them to stay on task and remain focused. Oftentimes when they are hungry, they are tired and not engaged in the learning. Getting these materials and snacks will give me the opportunity to feed my students and give them the energy they need to remain focused and on task while at home. By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student engagement but you will help to make sure they are receiving a small meal. One project students are working on during this remote learning project is their own autobiographies. Each day they are completing a chapter outlined with a task such as who is your favorite person, or if you could be any animal who would you be and why. So far students have been completing each chapter on loose leaf paper, as they began to revise their chapters the journals requested in this project will help them compose each chapter into one place. The journals will be unique to them and motivate them to continue writing about their life journey.
