Motivate, Stimulate, and Create! Great Resources for Great Kids!
Help me give my students the hands-on resources and incentives to keep them motivated throughout the year. Help stimulate their love for reading, writing, and math, through creative activities. Help provide sets of Apple AirPods for virtual conferencing.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students at my school are hungry for knowledge and new learning experiences. They are curious about their world, and thrive on new challenges. They are passionate readers and have many questions about people, languages, art, music, cultures and the world.
My students come from diverse cultural backgrounds, which I believe should be embraced.
They come from young families who are exited to work together and who are involved in their child's education. The students at my school not only come with unique backgrounds and experiences, but have learned to respect and value one another.
With the recent world events, media, and politics, I'm afraid my students will be faced with negative influences as they work, learn, and live together. Although I will not be able to shelter them from the events that occur outside our classroom, I can encourage them to keep learning more, appreciate others, continue to be kind, and make good choices from the heart.
My Project
I'm excited to think about the possibilities for my students to have access to materials which will support their social and emotional well being in such difficult times. The pandemic that we are facing has rocked education as we know it, and teachers have had to quickly adapt and face difficult challenges. My goal is to keep my students focused and motivated through engaging experiences, hands-on activities, and inspiring ways to reward good behavior. With these resources, the learning outcomes will increase their understanding of real world math and literacy concepts. For example, I will have my students use blank journals/mini-books for taking their writing through the Writer's Workshop stages. They will write and illustrate their very own books as a fun way to "publish" and share their work. For positive recognition in the classroom, I plan on implementing Classroom Economy. My students will earn "dollars" for good behavior, compliments from other teachers, doing a classroom job, and being a helper. They will use play money to save, count, add to the "ATMs", and spend it at the sticker store, book store, or treasure chest.
The donations to this project will help to improve my students' understanding of economics, and help improve behavior management with a Student Incentive Store.
Another item I would greatly appreciate funding is a dual set of AirPods. These are extremely important to help facilitate team instruction between classrooms, and seamless transition between online and in-person instruction, which will create a better experience for students, teachers, and parents. Switching back and forth from online to in-person without the noise cancelling option makes communication difficult, and can negatively impact student progress. Sets of AirPods will also increase reading comprehension and fluency, as I listen to recorded readings.
