My Project
Hello, my name is Ms. John, and I am a Special Education educator at a Title-1 public high school in Park Slope. Each teacher in our school is assigned an advisory group called Circle. During Circle, I demonstrate social-emotional awareness and teach my students to express their wants, needs, concerns, and conflicts effectively. I can bond and understand my students and their needs through Circle discussions. I take pride in creating a safe space for my students, and they trust me enough to come to me when they need my support.
My Circle students support me just as much as I support them.
I lost my mom in May 2022, and it was a tough time for me. Most of the time, if we are having a deep discussion and my mom comes up, I get pretty emotional. My Circle students always show me kindness and compassion when needed. They have helped me heal so much. While going through my mom's belongings, I found many of the arts and crafts things and paintings I made for her in school, some dating back to elementary school.
Around Thanksgiving, we did an activity highlighting those we are thankful to. Each student added their mother as someone for whom they are grateful. With Mother's Day approaching soon, I thought it would be a good idea for us to have a paint party with different Mother's Day-themed pre-drawn canvases that they can paint on to show their moms how much they love and appreciate them. My students and I would greatly appreciate it if you could help realize this vision. Thank you in advance for your support. I can't wait to show you all their masterpieces!
