Mosaic Mural - School Garden Beautification

Help me give my students the experience to create a large mosaic mural in our small garden as a beatification project for our new school!

My Project

Our 4th grade class would like make a long lasting change to our school. Our school is new (this is our 3rd year open). We have a small upstairs garden that is currently empty and unused. The students would like to change that! They'd like to start by 'beautifying' the garden by adding a large mosaic mural to a wall.

Our goal is to create a mosaic that represent the values of our school: Flexibility, Leadership, Inclusion, Growth, and Teamwork (these are our FLIGHT traits).

My students believe that by adding this mural, it is a step toward creating the type of space that they visualize all students in our school will enjoy. They'd like to make the garden a welcoming a safe space for all students in the school to relax, learn, and grow. They'd like mural to include flowers and/or trees, sky and sunshine, and positive affirmations. Additionally, they hope to incorporate our school name, and our school mascot in the design. The students are creating designs and sharing them with a parent who is a professional artist. This expert will help us turn the students design into a large mural. The students will be completing the mosaic themselves using non-toxic adhesive.

We'd like to get this project completed within 1 month. Our school has a showcase event on May 21 and the students want this to be our showcase project. The student understand, however, that it may take longer that we plan and are committed to completing it no matter what - as long as we have the supplies to do so.

For this project we need a lot of tiles. We'll also purchase tile adhesive, grout, and sealant to ensure that the mosaic is long lasting and protected from weather elements since it will be outside.
