Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in an inner-city school with a high population of immigrant students from diverse cultures and experiences. Many of my students live in poverty. Over three-quarters of our students receive free/reduced-price lunch. We have some students who are homeless and live in shelters. They have a wide range of skills and experiences. I learn from them as much as they learn from me. Their resilience and heart inspire me every day.

The moment when a student's eyes light up when they understand a concept they have been challenged with is what teachers strive for every day.

Working in the inner city can have many challenges. My students deserve to get the best education with resources that will reach their personal learning styles and enhance their knowledge to be able to reach their fullest potentials. As their teacher, I want to be able to give my students the most effective instruction to meet their individual needs.

My Project

Morphological awareness is critical in becoming great speakers, readers, and writers.

The Morpheme Magic book and morpheme cards will help improve and expand my student's vocabulary knowledge which will increase their reading and writing ability.

Understanding that words have parts and those parts have meaning will help my students comprehend a multitude of words throughout their education. We will be studying prefixes, suffixes and roots as part of our daily word inquiry. We will look into the history of words and identify if they are greek or latin. That knowledge will help them spell words accurately. Making sense of words will help my student's comprehension and writing skills soar!
