My school is located in a small rural town near the coast. My school is a Title I elementary school serving over 700 students with students receiving free lunch and breakfast. I had the privilege of working with students with mild to moderate special needs. I found that with this group of students, that a soft start to the day worked wonderfully. For the upcoming school year, I will be moving to a different classroom and will be working with three- and four-year-old students. I would like to have them start their day with a soft start as well.
As young as my students will be, I know that they will need to ease into their learning each day.
With the trays, magnetic blocks, sorting bears, potato heads, peg boards, and storage boxes, I will be able to set up educational activities that will also provide them with gross and fine motor practice while also building some independence skills. They will be learning important concepts through play - the best way to learn!
