My Project

In fifth grade, confidence doesn’t magically appear — it grows when students are coached through real responsibilities. Our morning announcements give students an authentic leadership role, but speaking clearly to an entire school is intimidating. Many students rush, freeze, mumble, or avoid eye contact because they are nervous about making mistakes in front of hundreds of people.

This project transforms morning announcements into a coached communication program where students learn how professionals prepare, practice, and improve.

Using a teleprompter, students will read announcements the way real broadcasters do. Instead of guessing what comes next or staring down at the paper, they can focus on pacing, expression, posture, and audience awareness. The goal is not to simply “get through” announcements — it is to train students to communicate effectively under pressure.

Students will not just take turns reading. They will coach one another through the improvement process. After each broadcast, the team reviews performance and provides supportive feedback on clarity, tone, speed, and confidence. Students revise their delivery and try again the next day. Through this cycle, they learn how to give constructive feedback, accept coaching, and grow from it. Over time, hesitant readers become leaders who guide others and help new announcers succeed.

Running announcements becomes more than a task; it becomes career preparation. Students practice public speaking, teamwork, professionalism, and leadership — skills used in interviews, presentations, athletics, and future careers. They begin to understand that confidence is not a personality trait, but a skill built through coaching and practice.
