My Students
My students love school! I do everything I can to make sure they have what they need to learn. My class is not a regular class. I have some students who are typically developed, and I have students who are developmentally delayed. Some have hearing, language, and/or speech impairments. Despite the differences, we are a team, a community. I foster a spirit of teamwork in my classroom. The students are learning that everyone is special and unique. We all are learners! In order to assist my students with visual spatial awareness, teach personal space and boundaries, and effectively use my time in the classroom to instill learning, we need a carpet that is not just plain. The children will learn the alphabet, and number concepts if they can interact with it through movement and play. This project would bring to life the concepts that I teach and will help bridge the gap for my special needs students to learn as effectively as my general education students. Please help make this project a reality for countless youth who progress through my classroom. You can be the difference that changes their lives for the better.
My Project
The rug that my class needs is one that defines a space with visuals that the children can learn to identify. Since prekindergarten requires students to learn to count and identify numbers up to 31, as well as learn upper and lowercase letters, this carpet would serve many purposes. With 10 general education 4 year olds and 8 students with special needs, it only makes sense to provide as many benefits to assist with learning as possible. Think of the fun musical games that could be played on such a rug. Play music, stop on a letter, identify it! Fun while learning!
