More Than Fun, More Than Mental, Pre-K Reading is Fundamental
Help me give my students a fighting chance to bridge this unfair learning gap with a “Literacy Reading Center” and supplies to keep our PreK scholars interested in reading for fun and mental which solidify Reading is Fundamental.
Because reading is Fundamental, this Literacy Center will serve our PreK girls in the day class, aftercare class and indoor recess time. Having a designated, comfortable area in the classroom that is dedicated to the enjoyment of reading will assist their interest in learning to read.
Being an all girls school, Excel Academy young scholars have unique and complex learning styles, challenges and rewards.
Some rewards include sisterhood, girl power, mentorship to mention a few. Some of the challenges are being unable to compete in specific school to school athletic competitions, and creating powerful teams and debate clubs. However reading does not fit into those boxes, because reading is fun.
During story-time, sister circle, or individual reading sessions, some scholars will gravitate the floor pillows while others will be at ease sitting in the comfy reading couch. Whether sitting on the floor with the floor pillows or in the couch, each story or game will be more enjoyable experience for our youngest learners.
