More Than Distance Teaching!

My Students

I have a diverse group of wonderful students that are eager to learn. My students are greatly impacted by challenges that they face living in the inner-city. Most of the students are living in single family homes with multiple siblings and the parents struggle with meeting the academic needs of their households. They come to school each day ready to learn something new inspired by the hope that education offers. During this time of Covid19, having the opportunity of connection with their teacher, learning and classmates, grants them a sense of stability.

My Project

Families have been sheltering in place and not all students have access to the internet. During this difficult time some parents need to work to support their families and some may not have the patience and/or understanding to navigate "teaching and parenting”. Giving my kindergarten students the opportunity to have a workbook that supplements grade level curriculum will assist them with independence and the comfort of knowing that they have options. These materials will bridge the gap for some of my students, while engaging others to enhance their skills with ease. The hope is that it will provide balance in the home for my families while we all work through this together.
