My students need more technology, 4 iPods and 4 iPads, in the classroom to ensure that everyone gets a chance to experience the joy of learning through technology.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Paper and pencil tasks, although important, can become quite boring! Technology, on the other hand, allows for creativity and fun! Having more technology available, will allow more students to work on projects daily rather than once a week. Creativity cannot wait!
I am a 2nd grade teacher teaching at an inner-city school in Texas.
I teach at-risk students who come from a high-need community. I create a warm, welcoming environment within my classroom, where children come in ready and eager to learn. I provide meaningful learning experiences daily. My students love the opportunity to use technology in the classroom. They all want a chance to experience the fun of learning and creativity through these wonderful devices. Thanks to donors like you, I was able to get technology in the classroom last year. My students worked hard on research projects, making their own books, exploring books through the Nook app, and creating power points and mini-movies. This year, our school is also providing tablets for a small group.
It is my goal to have more technology available to more of my students so that they do not have to put their projects on hold and wait to work on the devices once a week, but can have the opportunity available daily.
My Project
I am requesting 4 iPods for students to use as a listening center. With a double earphone jack, students will be able listen to audio stories, that I've purchased, in buddy pairs. These devices will allow 8 students to work on listening to stories for fluency. I will also add the reading and math apps to the iPods for students to use during workstations. The iPods may also function as a class camera, so that students may use these photos for creating their own stories.
With the additional four iPads, I would have a total of 8 i-Pads in the classroom, allowing more students to partner up to work on research projects, creating presentations on Keynote and i-Movie, write books using the book making app, and much more. The funding of this project will make my vision for a 2:1 (student:iPad) ratio a reality.
Students are more creative when technology is in their hands.
I have seen it first hand in my classroom last year. Working on meaningful technology projects prepares them for the real-world technological situations they will experience when they are older and in the workplace. I know that with this much technology in the classroom, my scholars will thrive with their creative products as evidence.
