it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students with autism are attending school for the first time in a newly opened Flexroom! This space is designed for students who struggle with self-regulation in the general education setting. One way to help children learn how to self-regulate is by providing them with strategies and tools for understanding their own emotions and those of their peers.
Slumberkins help children with Autism build social-emotional skills by emphasizing positivity, connection, and authenticity.
Founded by a special education teacher and a family therapist, Slumberkins was created to bring effective early emotional learning tools into as many schools as possible. All of the creatures and activities that Slumberkins provides will be a huge help in lowering my students' anxiety or worries about the changes that are coming. Each creature has a special story that helps children with understanding their emotions. The books are written in very kid-friendly ways and every book has motivational sayings for children to repeat and believe. The creatures are created in the softest material and are great to give kids comfort when they are having different kinds of feelings. With the Slumberkins Family and curriculum, children at our school will be learning how to build supportive and safe relationships while understanding the perspectives of people from diverse backgrounds and cultures. When children feel respected, safe, valued, and connect to one another and the classroom, they are better able to learn and explore all learning domains. I'd like to put these stuffed animals in our (Zen-Zone) calming corner for children to have access to when they need them after introducing the characters and going through the lessons they teach.
