Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our students love to learn, they thrive when developing and applying new skills, and they are resilient. We are an urban, low-income district, and the majority of our students come from hardworking immigrant families, many of whom speak a language other than English at home.
Students love to work on their coding skills by programming robots in our Library Media Center -- we need a few additional grid mats so more students can participate in this year's Wonder League Robotics Competition!
Coding and robotics activities motivate and engage students. They learn to collaborate and communicate, to persevere towards a challenging goal, to take risks and continually revise their thinking, all while experimenting with new technology--and they are eager to do it! It is always exciting to see how eager students are to take risks and experiment with the robots! Working on robotics challenges provides opportunity for students will develop higher order critical thinking and creative problem solving skills, improve their abilities to collaborate and work as a team, and learn how to use technology to improve lives and solve problems.
The robotics mats I am requesting will be utilized during whole-class robotics lessons and during Wonder League Robotics Team sessions as groups of students work with our Dash robots. More mats will allow more students to participate and develop important 21st century skills!
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
