My Project

We are entering the 2nd half of our school year and basic supplies are running low such especially pencils! Students have been diligently working and they have used LOTS of pencils so we need more!

I am also working to expand the representation in our classroom library and in my students' STEM bins to show more diverse characters, families and cultures.

I am asking for your help to get more books that show case social justice for young children and talk about important people such as Rosa Parks and parts of different cultures like in the book 'Round is for Tortilla.'

Every day my students have 'bucket time' which is 20 minutes to play with STEM bins between reading and math time to give them a brain break. Their favorite buckets are the Legos! So, I thought adding a family building set to the mix would be a great addition to add diversity to their play time.

This 'bucket time' gives them more opportunities to not only have that brain break but also work collaboratively with their peers imaginatively. It's one of my favorite parts of the day to see what they built and how they are working together.

With your help we will be able to expand their choices during this time and independent reading time---which will also expand their world views to a more diverse world.
