Being a Kindergarten teacher, I don't get a lot of feedback from previous teachers that taught these students, because most of them have not had any experience in a school setting. This year, I have a lot of students who have not been in any type of school setting, so this is their first experience with a structured environment.
I have noticed most of my students need a lot of one on one attention to get assignments completed, or they just need some reassurance to what they have completed.
My goal is to make my students know that I care about them and I am there for them. I am a stable person in their life when things are crazy outside of school.
Kids need more time to play! I want my students to be able to play and learn at the same time!
My Project
My class of kindergarten students (ages 5-6) need more time to play! So many schools and classrooms focus so much on testing and scores and they forget that they are kids!! My kindergarten kids need playtime! It is a very important time to develop social skills that they are missing outside of school. I am looking for more activities that provide learning opportunities while keeping the students interested. When I have more hands-on activities, students think they are getting extra playtime. What they don't realize, is they are getting more time working on foundation skills, social-emotional learning, math and reading skill building and they are having fun while doing it! They are learning while they play education games and activities.

Students get very excited when they see the program come up on the screen and the kids absolutely love it! It is a great way to introduce and reinforce the lessons I am teaching. Another way to reinforce learning is by using the hands-on games I requested. Students will have fun and stay focused while learning in small groups. The tablets will allow my students a "special" activity station day with academic games to work on letter sounds, sounding out words, sight word practice, and solving math problems!
If I can get more students interested in learning, I will be able to get them the knowledge they need to continue to grow and reach goals to succeed as they go through school and become adults.
