This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"No!!!" "No, Pigeon!" "NOOOOOOOO!" Usually a teacher would be cranky with a class that was yelling at a book like this in class, but I cannot get enough! My class is so into Mo Willem's "Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus" and I want to keep their excitement alive with more of his engaging texts!

My students are from economically-challenged, and culturally diverse SW Denver.

Our school is More than 94% free and reduced lunch, and most of my students have very few books at home to work with. Most of their learning and reading comes from school, so I am working to make our classroom a perfect haven of inspiration and motivation for them!

My Project

My class is full of below-grade level, reluctant readers. Literally, 25 of the 26 kids are reading on a Kindergarten level. They are making progress, but are always looking for books that make them feel like "real readers". Mo Willem's books are hard cover, with big words that are easy to read, and stories that are easy to predict, but still engaging. The students will LOVE the stories about Piggie and Elephant, and will be thrilled to follow Pigeon on some new adventures.

I hope you will consider donating to this grant and helping my students become passionate, life-long readers.

My students would be absolutely thrilled with each and every one of the books I am requesting in this project. Thank you!
